The Green Corridor
My goal is to make the urban space inviting to more than just people and strengthen the ecosystem where butterflies are an important part, both as pollinators and food for other species. I have chosen to help butterflies as their number in recent years has halved and is in dire need of support.
With design as a tool, I will introduce the host plants that the butterfly depends on to survive. To create as big of a change as possible I use an object that already has a strong presence in the urban landscape namely the lamppost.
I have designed a plant bed that is adapted after the lamppost and in it, there is the possibility to plant up to 24 plants. Thanks to the strategic location of the lampposts, you can with the help of my design connect the city’s green areas and introduce vegetation where it does not current exist any.
