”RÅ – RAW”

Creatures are created to animate the forest, because our anthropocentric worldview has greater respect for a human figure that expresses emotions, than for the trees and animals that actually live in the forest. Seeing the world as dead things is something that makes it possible to treat it badly.

A ‘RÅ’, as in raw, is an anthropomorphic figure. A being with human qualities. It is often said to be a protector of the forest and its animals. This human figure, who can be seen as the soul of the forest, demands respect and reverence. She prays for human sacrifice and can kill those who abuse and exploit the forest, she protects animals and trees from human violence. To stand without words in the face of inexplicability is to be unarmed. This is a humanizing portrait of a deer in a birch forest, to give it more power. Nerve threads in human brains are similar to those created by the roots of trees in the soil. I explore the identities of trees and depict the stumps that are on the clear-cut. I want them to have empathy, and maybe revenge. The bodies are dragged away, the stumps remain, like decapitated upside-down creatures.
